NPS Benefits & Features
Tax Benefits:
- • Section 80CCD(1): Up to ₹1.5 lakh deduction (within overall 80C limit)
- • Section 80CCD(1B): Additional ₹50,000 deduction (Tier 1 only)
- • Section 80CCD(2): Employer contribution up to 10% of salary (for salaried)
- • Maturity: 60% lump sum is tax-free, 40% annuity is taxable
Account Types:
- • Tier 1: Retirement account with lock-in until age 60 (mandatory)
- • Tier 2: Voluntary savings account without lock-in (optional)
- • Minimum Contribution: ₹6,000 per year for Tier 1
- • Asset Allocation: Equity (up to 75%), Debt, Government Securities
Withdrawal Rules:
- • At Retirement (60 years): 60% lump sum (tax-free) + 40% annuity (mandatory)
- • Early Exit: 80% must go to annuity, 20% can be withdrawn
- • Corpus < ₹5L: 100% withdrawal allowed
- • Partial Withdrawal: Up to 25% after 3 years for specific purposes
Expected Returns:
- • Equity-heavy: 10-12% p.a (higher risk)
- • Balanced: 8-10% p.a (moderate risk)
- • Debt-heavy: 6-8% p.a (lower risk)
- • Returns depend on asset allocation and market performance
